If you are a beginner at gardening, then you need to get some tools
before you start work. The right tools make any job easier and this
is particularly true when gardening. Get a spading fork or a gardening
fork first. Before you plant anything, you first need to get the soil
ready for it, using a garden fork. Next, you need a watering can.
Make sure that the water does not gush out with great pressure for
this is not advisable for young saplings.
Shovels, trowels, hoes, rakes and shears or clippers are the other
basic tools you'll be needing. Once you begin gardening then you can
add wheel barrows, carts, a hose and plenty of other stuff depending
on your requirements and budget. Don't buy expensive tools right at
the beginning for, you may decide that gardening is not for you after
all and then it will all be a major waste. But if you decide to go
in for it, buying forged tools may be a good idea since they are durable,
though slightly expensive. Tools with long handles give plenty of
leverage, but those with short handles offer more control.
When you take up gardening you must also master the art of keeping
your tools in shipshape condition. Check your tools often for rust
and loose screws. Protect wooden handles from cracking with a coating
of linseed oil. Always brush off dirt from trowels with a brush. You
can also clean them with water and then dry with a cloth. Apply a
little oil if storing them away for the winter. Citric acid can help
remove rust from shears. Keep digging and cutting tools sharp and
you will not have to strain as much in the garden. Last but least,
select the right tool for the right job and you'll find how easy it
all is.
